MANILA, Philippines — A recent study by LinkedIn, a prominent career-networking social media platform, has revealed that a significant 76% of Filipinos believe artificial intelligence (AI) will substantially impact their future jobs. This perspective on AI’s influence is not just theoretical but is increasingly being felt in the practical aspects of work.
The LinkedIn data showed a readiness among Filipinos to engage in discussions about AI’s effects on their jobs, with 84% or 8 out of 10 Filipinos open to talking with their supervisors about it. This openness reflects a growing awareness and acceptance of AI’s role in reshaping the workforce.
Interestingly, 55% of the workforce in the Philippines is already using generative AI, indicating a rapid integration of these technologies into various work environments. This adoption is expected to create more job opportunities, especially in remote work settings, highlighting AI’s potential in expanding and diversifying employment landscapes.
Moreover, the skill sets required for success in various occupations have transformed by an average of 25% globally since 2015, with the Philippines experiencing a more pronounced rate of change at 31%. This shift underscores the evolving nature of job requirements in response to technological advancements.
Job postings in Southeast Asia that mention AI or generative AI have doubled between 2021 and 2023. These postings have also seen a 1.7 times increase in applications over the past two years, outpacing those that don’t mention AI. This trend indicates a growing interest among professionals in engaging with AI-related roles.
Professionals in the Philippines recognize that skills such as problem-solving, creativity, and communication will become increasingly important as AI tools become more integrated into workplaces. Reynald Lapan, Chief HR Officer at Landers, emphasized the evolving skill requirements in sectors like retail, highlighting the need for workers to adapt by learning to use new technologies and developing strong soft skills.
Another study by IBM projected that 77% of entry-level jobs will evolve by 2025, further validating the transformative impact of AI on the job market.
This study paints a picture of a workforce that is not only cognizant of the changes AI brings but is also preparing to adapt and thrive in an AI-integrated work environment.
