Nestlé PH Eyes Expansion of RE Program to Cagayan De Oro Factory

Nestlé Philippines remains committed to its global ambition of reaching net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050. With this, the firm plans to expand its renewable energy program to its factory in Cagayan De Oro (CDO) in Mindanao. Currently, its Luzon factories, along with its main office in Makati, run on 100% renewable energy.

The CDO factory is Nestlé’s only manufacturing facility outside Luzon. It is also the country’s Nescafé — the manufacturer’s coffee brand — production hub. Nestlé Philippines maintained that decarbonizing the power sector and transitioning to renewable energy play a significant role in reducing the total GHG emissions globally.

“As a food and beverage company, we protect nature because we depend on its gifts,” explained Nestlé Philippines Senior Vice President and Head of Corporate Affairs Jose Uy III. “This is why tackling climate change is a top priority for us with our Net Zero Roadmap focusing on sourcing responsibly, shaping a waste-free future, and transforming our operations.

Uy also noted that constant collaboration between government and industry is crucial in order to surmount the challenges that riddle the green transition. Switching to renewable also proves to have its advantages in terms of business, he added. In particular, the firm is able to save on energy costs, strengthen stakeholder relations, and enhance corporate sustainability.

“We can, as companies, reduce our GHG emissions by scaling up our clean energy competitiveness and innovations for a more sustainable environment,” Uy elaborated. “In doing so, we will help to harness the potential of renewable energy and contribute to the growth of the energy sector. It is a win-win proposition both for businesses and the planet.” At the beginning of its energy transition in 2013, Nestlé Philippines partnered with AboitizPower. Earlier in June, the food and beverage manufacturer renewed this partnership to continue its power supply deal of clean and renewable energy.
