Google has said that they are currently strengthening their programs intended to “absorb” bad traffic for the protection of their users from cyberattacks.

Google Cybersecurity expert and Vice President for Chrome Browser, Paris Tabriz, has stated that with the growing number of browser users, protection from cyber threats is more important than ever.

Tabriz also mentioned that the pandemic sped up digital transformation for employees to be able to work remotely.

In 2021, Asia was ranked as the  “most attacked region” with 26% of global attacks targeted in this region while 80%  of the organizations in the Asia Pacific have also been subjected to such attacks says Tabriz.

It was also mentioned by Tabriz how ransomware damage has such a “massive impact” that is predicted to go past $30 billion by 2023.

“Many of us are right now connected in a browser on a web app and it has really underscored how important browser security is both as individuals as well as enterprise organizations,” says Tabriz.

Trabiz mentions how Google has upgraded its vulnerability reward program that works together with hackers to locate the system’s weak points. These programs will provide learnings that can be used to enhance the current systems in place.

“These reports not only help us fix and improve Google security products but also security on the web and Internet at large because oftentimes these bugs are in open source projects that other products use other services use and so really is helping to secure the Internet together,”  she adds.
