Manila Electric Company (Meralco)  plans to speed up the relocation of its poles that will be affected by the  Department of Transportation (DOTr)’s projects, specifically the rail systems to be added to the transportation network of the country.

Meralco representatives led by President and CEO Ray C. Espinosa had a meeting with DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista to discuss the renewed “commitment of support” for the government’s projects.

Espinosa mentioned how “the government can always count on Meralco’s continued and full support for these initiatives which will help spur the Philippines’ post-pandemic recovery and renewed drive towards economic progress.”

He also added that Meralco will continue its “pole relocation and energization activities in support of the agency’s ongoing and planned transportation projects geared towards greatly benefiting the public.”

While adding that “Meralco is cognizant of the importance of stable and reliable electric service in the timely completion and effective operations of DOTr’s infrastructure projects.”

On the other hand, Secretary Bautista had stated that “long before these projects become operational, Meralco has been and remains a loyal partner in supplying power critical for these projects to prosper.”

Meralco states that they have already relocated more than 2,500 poles and had energized 21 facilities in the last two years “to support the government’s infrastructure projects.”

Additionally, Meralco is relocating poles to support the implementation of the Skyway Stage-4 project and the NAIAx-EDSA Tramo connecting ramp.

Back in May 2019, an agreement was formed between DOTr and Meralco for ‘coordination works’ to help forward the implementation of government projects such as the transportation system by relocating poles that would then enable the timely completion of the projects.
