More than 420,000 Filipinos Lost their Jobs in 2020

Dominique Tutay, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Assistant Secretary, said the unemployment rate of the Philippines for the year 2020 reached 10.2%, more than 420,000 Filipinos, based on the latest Labor Force Survey of the Philippine Statistics Authority.

Tutay added that the Labor Department has been allocated ₱28.8 billion to assist affected workers, with 3.4 million overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) benefitting from DOLE’s CAMP, TUPAD, and AKAP programs. The country has initiated a 3-year national employment recovery plan that will focus on 4 key areas: restarting of economic activities, restoration of business confidence, upgrading of the workforce, and facilitation to labor market access of job seekers.
