Philippine Airlines to Cut 2,300 Jobs in March

Philippine Airlines (PAL) announced that it will cut 2,300 jobs, around 30% of its workforce including retrenchment and voluntary separation, in March.

Gilbert Santa Maria, PAL president, said “This has been an extremely difficult and painful decision. For our colleagues who are leaving, rest assured that we are committed to support you through this transition,”

Santa Maria added “We extend to you our deepest gratitude for your years of hard work and dedicated service, and we will always cherish the ties you have established with the PAL family,”

PAL Holdings, the parent company of PAL, suffered financial losses of ₱28.85 billion as of September 2020.

PAL said that as of early February, operations were at less than 30% of pre-pandemic weekly flights.
