Air Fares To Go Down In Feb Due To Cheaper Fuel

The Civil Aeronautics Board announced that passengers could expect cheaper plane tickets in February due to a lowered fuel surcharge.

Recent price monitoring showed that jet fuel averaged ₱38.92 per liter, lower than the previous ₱41.50 per liter.

Fuel surcharges are additional fees imposed by airlines to help them recover fuel costs. These are separate from the base fare, the amount passengers pay for their seats.

Under level 6, domestic flight passengers will pay a fuel surcharge of ₱185 to ₱665 each, while international flight passengers will be charged an additional ₱610.37 to ₱4,538.40.

Implementing lower fuel surcharges happens when airlines ramp up their flight capacities to take advantage of an increase in air travel demand.
