Elon Musk’s SpaceX recently tweeted that its satellite internet service, Starlink, is now available in the Philippines.
The National Telecommunications Commission expedited the approval of Starlink Internet Services Philippines Inc. last year.
Starlink places low earth orbit satellites into space to establish an internet connection, making it easier to reach even remote areas.
However, the price of entry for consumers is quite high. The equipment costs $599 per unit and connecting to the services is $99 per month.
Internet access and connection are currently sensitive issues in the Philippines. Premium services provided by big telco companies cost consumers a spend but internet speed remains lagging compared to neighboring countries.
