Gaa: A Michelin-Starred Indian Culinary Gem in Bangkok

Restaurant Gaa in Bangkok, Thailand, has made a significant mark in the culinary world by receiving its second Michelin star. This accomplishment is a testament to the exceptional skill and dedication of Chef Garima Arora and her team. Chef Garima, a Mumbai-born chef who previously worked at the famed Noma in Denmark and Gaggan in Thailand, has made Bangkok her home and culinary canvas.

Chef Garima is admired for her ability to balance her role as a Michelin-star chef while also embracing motherhood, having recently given birth. Her ability to run and improve a Michelin-star kitchen while managing personal responsibilities is seen as truly inspiring.

Gaa’s uniqueness lies in its approach to Indian cuisine. The restaurant focuses on integrating traditional Indian cooking techniques with locally sourced ingredients, aiming to reform the narrative on Indian food. The degustation menu at Gaa is a creative endeavor to present Indian cuisine with modern relevance and a touch of regional diversity. Dishes such as “The Tandoori Story” featuring durian and “A Taste of Kolkata” with Indian Chinese scallop, as well as ice cream made from the Indian wild Mahua flower, reflect this innovative approach.

In addition to the dining experience, the Gaa Lounge offers a space for guests to enjoy unique flavors in beverages. A key figure at the lounge is Tar, who has worked with Chef Garima for eight years and is known for his skill in mixing flavors to create signature cocktails, such as an elegant and subdued version of the classic Negroni.
