Marcos Inaugurates JG Summit’s Pioneering Petrochemical Complex Expansion

In a significant stride towards industrial growth, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. presided over the grand inauguration of the expanded JG Summit Petrochemicals manufacturing complex situated in Batangas. The event marks a milestone for the Gokongwei-led conglomerate, recognized as the premier polyolefins producer in the Philippines. Polyolefins, a type of thermoplastic, are crucial in manufacturing an array of products including food packaging and water bottles, indicating the complex’s potential impact on various sectors.

During the ceremony, President Marcos extolled the newly expanded facility, not merely as a hub of advanced technology but as a symbol of Filipino prowess, business confidence, and the resurgence of the manufacturing industry. He also hailed it as a tribute to the legacy of John Gokongwei, a visionary industrialist and patriot whose life story embodies perseverance and determination.

The President emphasized the multifaceted benefits the complex is poised to bring, particularly its role in bolstering other industries by supplying essential materials for sectors such as housing and packaging.

The event was graced by JG Summit Holdings Inc.’s top executives, Chairman James Go and President and CEO Lance Gokongwei. Lance Gokongwei disclosed that the manufacturing complex, which spans 160 hectares, represents a staggering investment of over P150 billion. He reflected on the journey of establishing the complex, a venture that evolved through nearly three decades, marking it as one of the conglomerate’s most significant single business investments.
