Toyota Halts Grand Highlander and Lexus TX Deliveries Over Airbag Issue

Toyota Suspends Grand Highlander and Lexus TX Deliveries in the U.S.

Toyota Motor has halted production and delivery of its Grand Highlander and Lexus TX SUVs in the U.S. due to an airbag issue. This suspension follows the recall of 145,000 vehicles from the 2024 model year because the curtain shield airbag on the driver’s side may not deploy correctly during certain crashes if the driver’s window is rolled down.

Production Halt and Safety Concerns

Toyota stated that both production and deliveries of the three-row SUVs are on hold “until a remedy can be determined.” The automaker is currently studying improvements for mass-produced vehicles. The airbag defect means the vehicles may not meet federal safety standards, thereby increasing the risk of injury during specific types of crashes.

Customer Notification and Plant Details

Customers will be informed about the issue by mid-August, though the timeline for the recall remedy remains uncertain. Both vehicles are manufactured at Toyota’s assembly plant in Princeton, Indiana.

Related Developments

This recall comes alongside Toyota’s increased investments in the Philippines, where the company pledged PHP 1.1 billion to public utility vehicle modernization.
