Nestlé and GIZ Aim to Boost Philippine Coffee Yield to Match Vietnam’s Output

Nestlé Philippines, in collaboration with the German development agency Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), is working to increase the coffee yield of small-scale Filipino farmers to levels comparable with Vietnam’s coffee production. This initiative is part of Project Coffee++, which aims to boost productivity through innovative techniques such as regenerative agriculture.

At a recent press briefing, Nestlé Philippines head of corporate affairs Joey Uy highlighted the project’s goal of raising coffee yields to 2 metric tons per hectare by 2025. Currently, farmers in the project have increased their yields to 1 metric ton per hectare, a significant jump from 235 kilograms per hectare in 2018 when the program started.

Project Coffee++ also includes partnerships with the Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Training Institute, offering online courses and crop calendars to assist farmers in better managing their coffee farms.
