New NAIA Records Four-Year High in Passenger Volume During Undas 2024

New NAIA Infra Corporation (NNIC), the new operator of Ninoy Aquino International Airport, reported record-high passenger and flight volumes during the Undas season, with 932,405 passengers and 5,627 flights from October 29 to November 4, 2024.

NNIC achieved an on-time performance (OTP) rate of 87.99% for arriving flights, surpassing the industry standard of 80%. However, departure OTP fell to 75.46% due to baggage-handling challenges, including equipment malfunctions and staffing shortages, which led to delays.

The influx of travelers also resulted in longer immigration lines, further affecting operational efficiency. NNIC has since engaged with airlines and ground handlers to address these issues, with plans to invest in additional baggage-handling equipment and workforce increases to improve performance during peak times.

In the coming months, NNIC will implement infrastructure and system upgrades in collaboration with stakeholders to enhance passenger flow and the travel experience. The consortium—comprised of San Miguel Holdings Corp., RMM Asian Logistics Inc., RLW Aviation Development Inc., and Incheon International Airport Corp.—officially took over NAIA operations on September 14, 2024, following a P170.6-billion concession agreement with the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
