Teresita Sy-Coson Leads Groundbreaking of BDO Corporate Center Makati

BDO Chairperson Teresita Sy-Coson and President and CEO Nestor Tan spearheaded the time capsule-laying ceremony on Friday to officially commence the construction of the BDO Corporate Center Makati, the latest addition to BDO Unibank’s portfolio of flagship complexes.

A Sustainable Landmark in the Making

The Makati Corporate Center will join BDO’s main office complexes in Ortigas, Pasig City, and Cebu, reflecting the bank’s strategic growth and sustainability goals. Designed by British architectural firm Foster + Partners and constructed by DATEM Inc., the building will be a cutting-edge hub that prioritizes sustainability and innovative design.

Key features include:

  • Exoskeleton Structure: Eliminates the need for conventional pillars, creating open and flexible spaces. It will also be the tallest exoskeleton building in the world.
  • Sustainability: The building integrates embodied carbon and lifecycle carbon management, cutting concrete use by over 65,000 tons. Operational energy usage will be reduced by more than 40%, with radiant cooling systems and 70% potable water recycling.
  • Green Spaces: 75% of rooftops will be covered in greenery, alongside an urban farm, an auditorium, and event spaces.

Future-Proofing Design

The complex will feature two towers and an annex building combining five separate plots into one cohesive business hub. The design ensures resilience against seismic activity and positions the structure as a sustainable addition to Makati’s urban landscape.

Employee and Client-Centric Spaces

Inside the center, workspaces will encourage collaboration and interaction with:

  • Flexible office spaces and trading floors.
  • Business hubs and areas for client engagement.
  • Amenities designed for comfort and mobility.

“More than the looks, it’s the utility that we put a premium on,” said Nestor Tan. “It will be the future home of BDO and other participants, ushering in the future of building technology.”

Commitment to Green Construction

The project aligns with BDO’s commitment to sustainability, earning a platinum Green Mark for energy efficiency. It also incorporates advanced building systems to minimize environmental impact while enhancing occupant comfort.

The BDO Corporate Center Makati underscores the bank’s dedication to innovation, sustainability, and creating inclusive spaces that support employees, clients, and the community.
