SPNEC Partners with Energy China for Central Luzon Solar Farm

SP New Energy Corp. (SPNEC) has tapped Chinese engineering giant China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd (Energy China) to develop a key portion of its massive solar farm in Central Luzon. The project, led by SPNEC’s subsidiary Terra Solar Philippines, Inc. (TSPI), aims to accelerate the country’s shift to renewable energy.

The engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract was signed on November 18 in Pasig City.

Partnership for Timely Completion

Manuel V. Pangilinan, Meralco chair and CEO, expressed confidence in Energy China’s capability to deliver the project within schedule.

“We welcome the partnership with Energy China and are confident that we can drive this project to completion, on time and beyond expectation,” Pangilinan said in a statement.

The Terra Solar project, valued at ₱200 billion, spans Nueva Ecija and Bulacan and is designed as the renewable energy platform for Meralco PowerGen Corp.

Energy China’s Role

Energy China, a global leader in infrastructure projects, will handle procurement, design, engineering, permitting, manufacturing, testing, logistics, and onsite delivery of the components required for the solar farm. It will also provide warranty coverage and oversee operational and maintenance protocols.

The Chinese firm has a strong track record in major international projects, such as the Three Gorges Dam and the West-East Power Transmission Project. This expertise is expected to help integrate the Terra Solar farm seamlessly into the Philippine national grid.

Project Timeline

The Terra Solar project will be executed in phases:

• First phase: Target capacity of 2,500 megawatts (MW), to be completed by 2026.
• Second phase: Additional 1,000 MW capacity, expected to go online by 2027.

This development underscores the Philippines’ commitment to advancing renewable energy infrastructure while addressing growing energy demands.
