The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) assured the public on Thursday that the Philippines’ positive economic outlook remains unaffected by the ongoing political disputes involving the Duterte and Marcos families.
“Business as usual for us. I don’t think that these political noises would have any impact on the economy,” NEDA Secretary Arsenio Balisacan said during a press briefing at Malacañang.
Balisacan emphasized that maintaining sound and stable economic policies is key to weathering political challenges. He pointed to the country’s resilience in overcoming crises since the late 1990s as evidence of its ability to sustain economic momentum.
“What is important is that our economic policies, our policy directions are sound and sustained,” he said.
Balisacan added that the Marcos administration remains focused on meeting the goals outlined in the Philippine Development Plan, which aims to support long-term economic growth.
“In this administration, we are so focused on ensuring that the goals and targets and strategies that we have outlined in the Philippine Development Plan will be achieved,” he explained.
The political feud between Vice President Sara Duterte and President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has intensified, with Duterte claiming that she contracted someone to assassinate Marcos if she were killed. She later clarified that her statement had been “maliciously taken out of context.”
Duterte has stated that reconciliation with Marcos is unlikely, saying they have reached a “point of no return.”
Despite these tensions, NEDA remains confident in the country’s economic trajectory. Balisacan assured that the administration’s focus on sound governance and development goals will help maintain stability and confidence among investors and the public.
