China Threatens Retaliation Over New US Tariffs

BEIJING, China – China has vowed to take “all necessary countermeasures” after US President Donald Trump announced an additional 10% tariff on Chinese imports, set to take effect on Tuesday.

This tariff comes on top of an earlier 10% levy imposed by the US earlier this month. Simultaneously, 25% tariffs will also be enforced on Canadian and Mexican imports, escalating trade tensions.

China’s Response:

  • China’s commerce ministry accused the US of “shifting the blame” by linking the tariffs to Beijing’s alleged role in the US fentanyl crisis.
  • China reaffirmed its strict anti-narcotics policies and criticized Washington for ignoring the facts.
  • The ministry warned that the tariff hikes will harm US businesses and consumers, disrupt the global supply chain, and fail to address America’s internal issues.

If the tariffs proceed, China has signaled that it will retaliate to protect its economic interests.
