Ajinomoto Cebu Now Fully Powered by 100% Renewable Energy

Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation (APC) has officially transitioned its Cebu factory to 100% renewable energy, completing the company’s commitment to run all Philippine facilities on clean power.

The announcement was made during a ceremony on April 4, 2025, at Dusit Thani Mactan. This milestone supports APC’s 2030 goal of cutting its environmental impact by 50%, a target the company has already surpassed.

Ajinomoto’s Bulacan plant made the shift in 2023, and with Cebu’s transition, both factories are now fully powered by renewable energy supplied by ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions. The shift is expected to eliminate 2,500 to 3,000 metric tons of CO2 annually in Cebu, complementing Bulacan’s 6,500-ton reduction.

Chief Sustainability Officer Ernesto Carlos emphasized that while renewable energy remains limited in supply, APC’s strong push with ACEN helped secure sustainable power for its Cebu site.

Beyond clean energy, APC is also investing in:

  • Paper packaging to replace plastic bundling

  • Electric vehicles for logistics

  • Zero-waste initiatives converting byproducts into animal feed and cement raw materials

Future plans include encouraging suppliers to adopt similar green practices and addressing Scope 3 emissions from product distribution.

Despite cost and sourcing challenges, APC continues to innovate, showing how sustainability can lead industry-wide transformation.
