NHA Waives 100% of Penalties for Delinquent Housing Loans, Offers Major Interest Reduction

The National Housing Authority (NHA) is offering a full waiver on penalties and a significant reduction on interest rates for beneficiaries behind on their housing loans.

Announced by NHA General Manager Joeben Tai, the special condonation program will run from May 1 to October 31, 2025, and aims to ease the financial burden on long-time beneficiaries with overdue loans.

“This is a golden opportunity for beneficiaries with outstanding balances to clear all penalties and delinquency interest, and settle the remaining balance under a new and more manageable payment schedule,” said Tai during the Pandesal Forum in Quezon City.

Under the program, beneficiaries will only be required to pay the principal amount and just 5% of the original interest on their amortization — effectively condoning 100% of penalties and 95% of interest.

The program is expected to write off a total of ₱3.7 million in accumulated penalties and interest, benefiting 220 housing beneficiaries. Many of these individuals have been saddled with interest and penalties that exceed their original loan principal.

Tai said the initiative is especially designed for beneficiaries who have held on to their housing loans for years but have struggled due to high financial charges.
