NGCP Announces Transmission Charge Hike in April Due to Higher Ancillary Costs

Electricity consumers should brace for higher power bills this April, as the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) confirmed an increase in transmission charges driven by rising ancillary service costs.

In a statement released Tuesday, NGCP said ancillary service (AS) charges rose by 16.05% to ₱0.8094 per kilowatt-hour (kWh). This includes the third installment of the deferred settlement from the March 2024 billing period, which the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) previously postponed.

Ancillary services refer to the energy support services purchased from the Reserve Market and bilateral providers to ensure grid stability and reliability.

Transmission wheeling rates—NGCP’s fee for delivering electricity—also increased by 4.81%, bringing the total transmission charge to ₱1.5240 per kWh, an 11.51% jump overall.

“For April 2025, NGCP will only collect ₱0.55 per kWh for delivering power. The rest of the transmission charge primarily goes to AS providers,” NGCP clarified.
