CIMB Bank Begins Refunds for Customers Affected by Unauthorized Transfers, Assures Data Security

CIMB Bank Philippines announced on Sunday that it has started processing fund reversals for customers impacted by recent unauthorized transactions. The digital-only bank apologized for the inconvenience and reassured clients that its core banking system and customer data remain “secure and intact.”

In an advisory, CIMB encouraged affected customers to check their accounts, noting that their security “continues to be of utmost importance” to the bank.

Previously, CIMB disclosed it was conducting a thorough investigation into the unauthorized withdrawals, which it said affected only a “few customers,” without providing specific numbers.

“We would like to assure affected customers that any impacted funds will be returned,” the bank reiterated, emphasizing that its core systems were uncompromised despite the incident.

Earlier this year, CIMB announced aggressive expansion goals, targeting an additional 1 million users to reach a total of 10 million customers in 2025. It also aims to boost its loan clientele to 4.7 million this year, up from 4 million in 2024.

The bank ended 2024 with P800 billion in total transactions and P100 billion in loan disbursements, marking a strong performance in the competitive digital banking space.
