Wall Street Slips Into Caution Mode Amid Trade Talks, Earnings Anticipation

Wall Street showed minimal movement on Monday as investors stayed cautious ahead of key economic reports and corporate earnings, while monitoring developments in US-China tariff negotiations. Tech stock weakness weighed on the Nasdaq, while the Dow and S&P 500 posted modest gains. Treasury yields dipped slightly, and gold edged up in response to a weaker dollar.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent noted “very good” tariff proposals from trading partners and signs of de-escalation from China, but uncertainty persists. Major companies like Meta, Microsoft, Apple, and Amazon are set to report earnings this week. Economic data releases, including the PCE index, ISM PMI, GDP estimate, and April jobs report, are also expected.

Globally, European and Asian markets posted gains, while crude oil prices declined due to potential OPEC+ supply boosts and trade uncertainty.
