Solid North Suspends Bus Operations for 30 Days Following Deadly SCTEX Crash

Pangasinan Solid North Transit Inc. has voluntarily suspended its operations for 30 days after a tragic multi-vehicle crash along the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) on Thursday that left 10 people dead—including four children—and injured 37 others.

The suspension came in compliance with an order from the Department of Transportation (DOTr), as confirmed by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Friday. The bus company announced that passengers may cancel their bookings or opt for other remedies during the temporary halt.

In a public statement, Solid North expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy. “We are one with the nation in sympathizing with the victims. While we aim to uphold the highest standards in public transport, there are situations beyond our control,” the company said, pledging accountability and support for affected families.

Government agencies, including the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Tarlac provincial government, have extended assistance with medical and funeral costs. DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon and PCG Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan also personally visited the wake of two of the crash victims, including a Philippine Coast Guard personnel.

As families grieve, labor group TUCP called for urgent reforms in the transport sector, citing long hours, unsafe working conditions, and poor regulatory enforcement as root issues. TUCP President Raymond Mendoza urged the DOTr to lead a comprehensive investigation and push for a “road safety reform agenda,” which includes better driver pay, limits on working hours, regular training and vehicle inspections, and stricter penalties for violations.

“This heartbreaking incident highlights the urgent need for reforms that protect both commuters and workers. We owe it to the victims—and to all Filipinos—to ensure this never happens again,” Mendoza said.
