Bitcoin Payments App Fold Celebrates Nasdaq Debut with Opening Bell Ceremony

Fold, a fast-growing Bitcoin rewards and payments platform, marked a major milestone by ringing the opening bell at the Nasdaq MarketSite in Times Square on May 1, 2025. The event celebrated its official public listing under the ticker FLD, signaling the company’s commitment to integrating Bitcoin into everyday financial transactions.

Fold’s executive team, early employees, and dedicated community members attended the ceremony, which was also livestreamed worldwide and broadcast on the Nasdaq tower screens.

“This marks a shift from Bitcoin’s niche origins to the heart of global finance,” said CEO Will Reeves. “We’re proud to be leading the way in using Bitcoin for real, everyday utility—not just speculation.”

Fold, originally launched by Bitcoin venture studio Thesis*, has experienced rapid growth since its 2019 debut. With “hundreds of thousands” of users, the platform rewards customers with Bitcoin for everyday purchases via debit cards, merchant partnerships, and upcoming credit card offerings. To date, users have earned nearly $67.8 million in BTC rewards.

Fold became a publicly traded company in February 2025 after a successful merger with FTAC Emerald Acquisition Corp., a special purpose acquisition company. It now operates under the name Fold Holdings, Inc., with stock and warrants actively trading on Nasdaq.

The company also plans to launch its highly anticipated Bitcoin Rewards Credit Card, available to both Fold+ subscribers and free users. Fold+ cardholders will earn 2% unlimited cashback in BTC, receive a metal card, and enjoy benefits like zero-fee Bitcoin trading. Free users will receive 1.5% cashback in BTC, with upgrade options available.

Fold clarifies that while it offers financial services, it is not an FDIC-insured institution.
