Nueva Vizcaya Named ‘Ginger Capital of the Philippines’ for Leading Production

Nueva Vizcaya has officially been declared the “Ginger Capital of the Philippines” by the Department of Agriculture (DA), thanks to its leading role in national ginger production.

In 2024, the province yielded 7,140 metric tons of ginger from 933 hectares, averaging 7.4 metric tons per hectare across 5,010 growers. Nueva Vizcaya also plays a key role in supplying ginger to major trading hubs across northern and southern Luzon, as well as Metro Manila, facilitating the movement of over 14,700 metric tons last year.

Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. emphasized that the title reflects not only recognition but also a commitment to support the province’s farming community. He highlighted ginger’s value both as a culinary and medicinal product, saying its growth can uplift smallholder farmers across Nueva Vizcaya and the wider Cagayan Valley region.

Aside from ginger, Nueva Vizcaya’s 481,388 hectares of farmland also produce a range of crops, including rice, corn, onions, garlic, tomatoes, melons, and mangoes.
