Dito Telecommunity, the country’s third-leading telco, has selected to enter into a deal with prominent telecommunications equipment maker Nokia to aid its deployment of 5G services in Mindanao.

In a statement on Wednesday, Nokia said the 5G infrastructure is set to receive the necessary equipment from its comprehensive massive MIMO(multiple-input and multiple-output), multi-band, Single RAN (radio access network) AirScale portfolio.

This will allow Dito’s 5G services to be delivered at “superior speeds, capacity, and lower latencies” at a reduced cost. Nokia and Dito have been 4G-LTE radio partners since 2020.

“We are proud to continue our partnership with Dito into the 5G era and help deliver its ambitious plans for 5G connectivity. We are also delighted that Dito has selected our industry-leading 5G RAN solutions to underpin its new network which will deliver incredible connectivity experiences for businesses and people,” said Tommi Uitto, Nokia mobile networks president.

In its second year of operations, Dito hopes to be able to deliver a minimum speed of 51 megabits per second to its consumers. Rolling out 5G services is a step forward to achieving the targeted speed, believes the telco’s executives.
