Gilas Pilipinas Sweeps Group A of FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers

The Philippine men’s national basketball team, Gilas Pilipinas, finished their FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers without a hitch after the final day of the competition on Sunday at Angeles University Foundation Clark, Pampanga.

Gilas Pilipinas swept the Group A qualifiers with a 6-0 run. This has also earned them a spot to compete in the FIBA Asia Cup set to take place from August 16 to 28 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

On Sunday, the team had to go up against Korea for their last match. It was back-and-forth throughout most of the game but Gilas Pilipinas ultimately came out on top with just a 5-point differential. The final score at the end of the fourth quarter was 82-77.

Indonesia and Thailand were the other teams included in Group A of the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers. Indonesia finished third with a standing of 2-4. However, they already qualified for the FIBA Asia Cup as hosts. Thailand, on the other hand, was winless throughout its six matches. Unfortunately, they failed to qualify.
