McDonald’s Philippines has made a statement that as of June 30, 2020, 93% of their stores are operational as compared to the beginning of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in March where only 50% of stores were operating.

Margot B. Torres, McDonald’s Philippine Managing Director said in a virtual press that most of the stores were able to resume dine-in services, as most stores were only able to operating through delivery and drive-thru.

Torres added that McDonald’s sales from its food delivery business “grew three times” compared to pre-COVID-19 period. According to Torres, “the preference of our customers right now is still delivery and drive-thru. We still don’t know how much is willing to dine-in.”

Kenneth S. Yang, Chief Executive Officer of McDonald’s Philippines, said “During this period, we had to do a lot of adjustments to make sure we maintained our revenue and sales.”

Yang added, “When the crisis hit, we did delivery and drive-thru. As we continue, we should see our sales improving now that we have dine-in services. We should be able to exploit all our existing channels.”

Though, Yang expects a slowdown on store openings in terms of expansion due to the persistence of COVID-19 pandemic. “With this crisis, we had to adjust, but we will continue to open around 15 stores, significantly less than what we planned”.
