TACLOBAN CITY—The Borongan City government in Eastern Samar is collaborating with a non-government organization to produce data on local farming and fishing to improve their planning.

The city government announced on Thursday that it has signed a memorandum of agreement with Action for Economic Reforms (AER), a non-stock, non-profit organization that has existing ties with the United States Agency for International Development, to carry out the initiative.

The group will generate and consolidate data related to the socio-economic profile of rice farmers and fisherfolk, as well as data related to their production output and level of productivity for 30 months.

“Basically, the health status of our farmers as it affects, directly or otherwise, to their productivity will likewise be included in the base data,” said Jojito Acla, the city’s executive assistant.

The 30-month-long project dubbed the “Coalescing Organizations towards Locally Led Actions to Boost Development” (COLLABDev) will deal with data analytics after gathering and consolidating it.

COLLABDev will provide the city government with research-based data and other relevant information that will inform their decision-making, planning, and implementation of programs for their farmers and fishermen, and more.
