AC Energy Considers Vietnam as Its Biggest Market for Renewables

Ayala-led AC Energy Corp. has found Vietnam to be its largest renewable market outside of the Philippines with its projects reaching a renewable energy (RE) capacity of 1,000 megawatts (MW).

“Vietnam is an ideal place for sustainable investments as it leads the race to clean energy transition in the post-Covid world,” explained AC Energy president and CEO Eric Francia.

With the firm’s current solar and wind farms already in operation, AC Energy’s RE capacity is already at 525 MW. It’s targeting an additional 440 MW once the projects under construction have been completed.

In Vietnam, AC Energy’s maiden project is the Nihn Thuan solar farm with an RE capacity of 405 MW. It is among the largest solar farms in the Southeast Asian region, which was constructed along with the company’s partner BIM Group.

AC Energy and BIM Group’s latest project is the 88-MW wind farm also in Nihn Thuan, which already has six turbines installed. The transmission lines and substation of the wind farm have also been completed and are ready for energization.

Moreover, AC Energy also has the 80-MW Khan Hoa and Dak Lak solar farms. This project is in partnership was built with AMI Renewables Energy Joint Stock Co. and became operational in 2019.

AC Energy and AMI Renewables have also started working on the Quang Binh wind farm, which will have a RE capacity of 252 MW. This project is also projected to be Vietnam’s largest onshore wind farm.

Other AC Energy projects still in development in Vietnam include the Mui Ne wind farm in partnership with Blue Circle Pte. Ltd. located in the Binh Thuan province and two wind farms in Vietnam’s Soc Trang province with UPC Renewables.
