Last year’s release of the Queen’s Gambit exploded chess onto the mainstream. Names such as Hikaru Nakamura, Magnus Carlsen, Daniel Naroditsky, Eric Rosen, and Levy Rosman rode the wave of excitement, bringing them to new heights of popularity. The game experienced a renaissance as people flocked to learn the sport to fuel their interests. With this hype, the chess world was brought to the public mainly via Twitch streams.

As the hype for chess slowed down, the sport remains one of the website’s most visited categories. However, even if the initial wave of excitement has passed, companies have still looked for ways to capitalize on the recent boom.

German chess media company, ChessBase, plans to launch the ‘Moments of Genius NFT series on the OpenSea.io marketplace. The collection will feature previous world chess champions, united with their iconic games and moves, with each NFT being authorized by the player. A portrait will be merged with a holographic font showcasing key chess positions in the champion’s career.

The series will offer fourteen different art pieces, each a 1080 x 1080p GIF. To purchase one of these artworks, one needs an Ethereum wallet connected to OpenSea.io.

According to Indian chess Grandmaster Vishy Anand, ChessBase “has changed the chess world forever”. The company operates as an international chess server and chess news platform. Additionally, the company has developed game-changing programs such as ‘Fritz’ and award-winning educational programs for children. With access to the world’s best players and coaches such as Garry Kasparov, Vishy Anand, Vladimir Kramnik, Daniel King, Maurice Ashley, Peter Heine Nielsen, and many more.

The NFT collection was designed by Swedish artist Carl Eriksson. He was an art collector initially in Wales and eventually moved his life to Hamburg, Germany. He has spent the last 15 years practicing his craft on several brands, including most of the products on the ChessBase portfolio.
