The Gap prepares to Launch its first NFT collection under Tezos

Clothing retail giant, The Gap, has announced the launch of its debut NFT collection through Tezos. The collection will feature a “gamified digital experience” for creators and allow customers to own digital Gap hoodies.

The announcement was made on The Gap’s official site last Wednesday. The company has partnered with Frank Ape NFT artist Brandon Sines for their new collections. According to The Gap, Sines’ NFTs embody self-expression, equality, and positivity, characteristics that “align with the company’s values”.

“With this partnership with Gap, the creative cycle has come full circle as it allows me to express the beautiful messages of Frank Ape while collaborating with one of the most classic brands in history,” said Sines. “I cannot wait to share the physical and digital pieces we’ve been working on with Gap and Frank fans worldwide.”

The collection will include hoodies of varying rarity levels: Common, Rare, Epic, and One of a Kind. The Common hoodie NFTs will be available from Jan 13th, 9 am PT to Jan 15th, 8:59 am PT. These will sell for around 2 tez each, roughly $8.

Rare and Epic drops will sell for 6-100 tez, respectively, and will be available on the 19th. Lastly, the One of a Kind hoodie NFT will be auctioned starting on the 24th at 9 am PT.

Gap chose to launch its collection through Tezos as it is marketed as an energy-efficient NFT platform due to its proof-of-stake consensus mechanism. Oftentimes, companies entering the NFT space face backlash due to their perceived environmental and energy concerns.
