Last Friday, Mar Roxas called for his Capiz province mates to rally behind the campaign of Vice President Leni Robredo. He reiterated that she possessed the qualities of a leader that the country requires.

Roxas joined the rally of his chosen candidates in his hometown of Roxas City where he stated:

“Let us support her, raise her up, choose her. (Let’s) give our full support to Leni Robredo.”

Roxas proclaimed that it is time for his province mates to show their gratitude to Robredo and the Bicolanos who supported his presidential bid in 2016.

In his last run for the presidency, Roxas chose Robredo as his running mate, a decision that proved to be auspicious.

“During that time, the very first and the most important decision that someone running for president needed to make was to choose his running mate,” Roxas said in Hiligaynon.

“It was clear to me that the person who had my full trust because she had all the qualifications, not just intellectual qualifications, but also qualifications of the heart, was no other than Leni Robredo,” he said.

Following his loss in the 2019 senatorial elections, Roxas retired from the political scene. However, he continues to express his pride for Leni who was thrown into politics after the death of her husband, Jesse Robredo, in the plane crash of 2012.

“In 2016, (Robredo) and her ‘kasimanwas’ in Bicol were true to us. They gave us victory there in their place. In the same way, we also gave her victory here (in Capiz),” Roxas said.

“So I am appealing to all of you that in the upcoming elections, let us show our acknowledgment and affirmation of (Robredo), her capacities, her love for us and for her being true to our electoral bid (in 2016),” he added.
