DC Comics, alongside Warner Bros., is set to drop a new NFT collection next month consisting of 200,000 tokens of Batman’s Cowl — titled the “Bat Cowl Collection.” The collection is expected to haul a total of $60 million with each piece being priced at $300. The sale will start on April 26 through DC’s NFT marketplace (nft.dcuniverse.com), but exclusive presale access will be offered to owners of NFTs from the DC FanDome collection released last year.

This new collection comes after the theatrical release of “The Batman,” starring Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, which has already racked up $330 million at the domestic box office. The Bat Cowl Collection will be managed by Warner Bros. Consumer Products in partnership with Palm NFT Studio featuring distinct iterations of Batman’s cowl “reflecting the diversity of Batman stories and their passionate fans” designed by 3D design studio Daz3D. DC also has plans to integrate the collection into future stories.

Alongside owning an NFT, users who purchase from the drop will also be given certain perks such as access to a private DC Universe fan forum which will have behind-the-scenes content, select fan events, physical collectibles, and merch, among others. A two-year roadmap geared to “expand utility” for Bat Cowl NFTs every 52 days in areas like augmented reality, metaverse integration, and expanded wallet capabilities has also been developed by the comic book publisher.

“What’s exciting about this amazing collaboration is that we are continuing the evolution of [Batman’s] distinctive Bat Cowl by bringing it into the modern digital world, making it accessible and more wildly engaging than ever before,” explained Jim Lee, a publisher and Chief Creative Officer at DC. “Through the introduction of carefully curated colors, textures, and upgrades — the end results offer a take and taste for every kind of Batman fan out there and serve as powerful ways for all of us to make a timeless icon our very own.”

“We believe the Bat Cowl Collection will allow collectors to deepen their connection with Batman and the DC Universe, while embracing their fandom in the growing metaverse ecosystem,” furthered Warner Bros. head of NFT commercial development Josh Hackbarth. The collection marks Warner Bros.’s latest NFT initiative.

Previously, 91,000 limited-edition tokens featuring characters from Space Jam: A New Legacy — also developed in partnership with Palm Studios NFT — were given out to fans for free. Warner Bros. also worked with Nifty’s for the launch of its 100,000-NFT “The Matrix”  collection after the release of The Matrix Resurrections movie.
