The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will be holding its first face-to-face 4-day job fair starting May 1, in celebration of Labor Day. For the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, DOLE will now resume its onsite job fairs, offering around 64,000 foreign and local job opportunities for Filipinos.

Rolly Francia, the labor spokesperson, states that around 64, 485 job opportunities will be up for grabs from 641 different employers during the nationwide Labor Day job fairs held in 23 sites. Around 50,000 of these job opportunities would be for local applicants and around 12,000 would be for overseas job opportunities. Some of the top vacancies for local job opportunities are for customer service representatives, collection specialists, and production/machine operators, while the vacancies for foreign job opportunities are for household service workers, nurse aides, and food servers.

In a virtual conference held last Monday, labor assistant secretary Dominique R. Tutay remarks, “It will be a hybrid. There will be some areas, which will still have online [job fairs] at the same time there will also be those which will conduct physical [job fairs].” With job fairs being held exclusively online for the past two years due to the pandemic, Tutay states that most job fairs will now start resuming their onsite setup.

Apart from DOLE’s Labor Day job fairs, Tutay also commented on the creation of the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP)’s commitment last year which aimed to generate 1 million jobs for Filipinos. Tutay continues, “We believe that for the recovery process, we need to create more employment opportunities for our citizens, which we hope will be sustainable.”

The NERS task force will also be presenting its transition plan during the upcoming Job Summit to discuss how to sustain more employment opportunities for Filipinos.
