Prominent pop superstar Madonna recently released her own NFT collection on Monday, titled “The Mother of Creation,”  which features three videos that portray the artist as a woman giving birth to flora (dubbed as “Mother of Nature”), fauna (dubbed as “Mother of Evolution”), and technology (dubbed as “Mother of Technology”).

Despite the release, Madonna had previously entered the space of NFTs and blockchain technology after she acquired a tattooed ape from the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) collection in March for 180 ether (approximately $560,000 at the time). This latest drop was a “labor of love” for Madonna, particularly because it was a year in the making. The superstar collaborated with digital artist Mike Winkelmann, better known as Beeple, to make the collection a reality.

“When Mike and I decided to collaborate on this project a year ago, I was excited to have the opportunity to share my vision of the world as a mother and an artist with Mike’s own unique point of view,” explained Madonna. “It’s been an amazing journey building this together from an intellectual idea to an emotional story, giving birth to art. I wanted to investigate the concept of creation, not only the way a child enters the world through a woman’s vagina, but also the way an artist gives birth to creativity. Most importantly we wanted to use this opportunity to benefit mothers and children who are most in need right now.”

For his part, Beeple noted that being involved in the project was “such an absolute, insane honor.” “I don’t do many collaborations. This is probably the only one I will do for a very long time,” added the artist. The collection is expected to be auctioned off on May 11 (Wednesday) on the NFT marketplace SuperRare.

Proceeds from the auction will also go to three nonprofit organizations that are geared to support women and children. The three charities are the Voices of Children Foundation, which aids women and children affected by the war in Ukraine; the City of Joy Foundation, which provides assistance to victims of violence in Congo; and finally, Black Mama’s Bail Out, which provides bail for incarcerated caregivers. Each charity will also be given an additional $100,000 by Moonpay, a crypto platform that provided support in creating the project.
