Leading Philippine mobile wallet app GCash continues to stand by its commitment to providing safe and convenient digital financial solutions for Filipinos. In this light, the fintech firm recently entered into a partnership with the City Government of San Fernando, Pampanga. The partnership aims to educate the local government unit’s employees and constituents on the benefits of using the application.

“Our partnerships with the public sector are geared towards reaching out to the unbanked and underserved communities and equip them with digital financial solutions that can make everyday transactions safer, more secure, and convenient. We are always open to working with more LGUs to help Filipinos have better lives,” explained GCash President and CEO Martha Sazon.

The initial stage of the partnership also enables San Fernando residents to settle their dues — from taxes to rent — through the app’s “Pay Bills” feature. “Mas pinadali at pinabilisna ang pag collect namin ng mga payments for real property, business tax at market stall rentals at malaking pasasalamat po natin sa oportunidad na maka-partner ang GCash sa ganitong adhikain, lalo na ngayong panahon ng pandemya,” furthered San Fernando City Treasurer Mary Ann Bautista.

(“We have made it easier and faster to collect payments for real property, business tax, and market stall rentals and we are very grateful for the opportunity to partner with GCash in this endeavor, especially in this time of pandemic.”)

GCash also conducted an Express Lane program, which lasted a week, to promote cashless payments through its app. It deployed booths and roving ambassadors in the San Fernando City Hall to provide assistance to the public. Moreover, the company also held financial literacy programs to boost the adoption of digital payments. This included dialogues with local government employees, market vendors, and heads of Tricycle Operators and Drivers’ Associations (TODA).

The modules for the financial literacy programs consisted of Everyday Wais Tips and the Palaguin ang Negosyo with GCash. The former taught the various transactions and financial services that are available through the app. The latter, on the other hand, highlighted the convenience and safety of receiving payments.

“We are truly excited to partner with the City of San Fernando in making our purpose of financial inclusion a reality to various communities and the public sector at large,” added GCash AVP and Group Head for Public Sector and Partnerships Cathlyn Pavia. “At GCash, we ensure that these communities gain access to financial literacy programs and that we work with them in building a reliable digital ecosystem to promote sustainable adoption.”

GCash also introduced the opportunity for entrepreneurs to become a GCash Pera Outlet (PO), which could allow them to earn extra income. GCash POs will be able to have an increased wallet size of up to ₱500,000 and earn as much as ₱10,000 per month through fees charged on transactions. So far, the fintech firm expects to onboard 364 market vendors and 38 TODA heads onto its app. There are also 270 active GCash POs currently active in San Fernando, Pampanga.
