Manny Pacquiao Unveils New NFT Collection, a Tribute to His Dog Pacman

Over the past week, Filipino boxing icon and current senator Manny Pacquiao launched his own NFT collection. Pacquaio expressed his excitement in a Facebook post on Wednesday, where he also included the link to the collection’s website. It features 10,000 unique boxer NFTs of his late Jack Russell terrier — also named Pacman. Onix, a friend of the senator from LA, and NFT collection CryptoPunks are also co-creators of the project.

“One sunny afternoon after the accident, Manny and I were sitting in a quiet cafe when I casually introduced him to the idea of the Blockchain and all the wonderful things the technology can bring,” explained Onix on the NFT’s site, recalling the birth of the collection. “While elaborating on various technical details, I began to see Manny’s face suddenly start to glow ecstatically as if he’d been struck by some life-changing epiphany. ‘Does that mean… Pacman can be forever?’ he stuttered with excitement. And so it came to be!”

Each token in the collection is “generated algorithmically from over 200 carefully hand-drawn attributes.” The NFTs also showcase unique RPG-like attributes such as strength and stamina. Moreover, the creators divided the collection into three tiers — with Tier 1 boxers having “the rarest of traits and the highest level of skills.” According to the website, these “will be most scarce in the collection, thereby also unlocking the highest potential rewards and real-world benefits.”

Out of the 10,000 tokens, only 99 Tier 1 boxers will be minted. The three tiers will offer various real-world utilities to owners, which can come in the form of signed merch and tickets to exclusive events. A face-to-face meeting with Pacquiao may also be on the table for owners of Tier 1 boxers. At the moment, the minting for these NFTs is set for July 15. The creators, likewise, expect this particular collection to serve as the base for a planned NFT game titled the “Pacman Boxing League.” Pacquiao joins other local personalities including Myrtle Sarrosa, Nadine Lustre, and Heart Evangelista, who have entered the NFT industry.
