Meralco Industrial Engineering Services Corp. (Miescor) — a unit of Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) — recently entered into a partnership with Seochang Electric Communication Co. Ltd. Both firms aim to implement a research and development project in the country, through a grant from the Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning. The project will push for the use of clean energy technologies.

“We are honored to partner with Seochang and other Korean companies in this initiative as we all share a common goal of bolstering the use of clean energy,” expressed Ronnie Aperocho, Miescor President and CEO. The joint project hopes to establish a 50-kilowatt peak solar photovoltaic (PV) system and a 300-kilowatt-hour energy storage system (ESS) in Cavite. Approximately 200 households in Brgy. Hugo Perez, Trece Martires City — a Gawad Kalinga community — are projected to benefit from the initiative.

Miescor is eyeing to begin construction in September, with completion set for November 2022. The PV system and ESS will power the community’s facilities, including street lights as well as its multi-purpose hall and development center. Meanwhile, it also stands as a potential energy source for electric vehicles in the future. The firms plan to establish a performance evaluation and maintenance system prior to the full operations of the project.

“This project does not only support One Meralco Group’s sustainability goals, but also, this project most importantly, contributes to a cleaner and more eco-friendly environment, provides electricity to the community, and creates livelihood opportunities,” Aperocho elaborated. Other groups supporting the project hope to develop a sustainable energy network in the community.

“We in Seochang, are happy that Miescor partnered with us in this undertaking as we have been looking for the most appropriate and sustainable project that we can be a part of in our Asian neighbors,” furthered Seochang President Alika Yoon. “And this project in the Philippines is, in our opinion, the most deserving one.”
