A Sunny Life With Sunny Label

A couple of years ago, Sunny Tolentino chanced upon Ikigai, a Japanese concept centered on the whys as to one waking up in the morning, what keeps one going, and ultimately what one lives for.  Ever since then, Sunny had made it her lifelong journey to find her way and live by it.

“After doing a lot of inner work in order to figure out what truly matters to me, the answer always points back to my insatiable passion for creating things and making life better—the same reason why I often spend my days doing a bunch of stuff that I could share with this community.” shares Sunny. 

Sunny describes herself as “someone who loves creating things”.

One day she randomly thought of making scented candles for herself. Sunny researched the ingredients, watched video tutorials, and ran her trial and testing until she came up with her perfect blend. With this blend, she gave these candles as gifts to her friends for the holidays and when she heard clamors for refills, she decided to start her shop and sell candles.

From then on, she began Sunny Label as a slow movement and curating self-care essentials for a sunny life.

At first, she found it difficult to deal with the business side of her operations in terms of pricing, paperwork, inventory, and the like. Luckily, she was chosen to be part of Mano Amiga’s Skills for Success program for small local businesses. Through their resources, workshops, and cash grant, Sunny was able to bring her business to a bigger scale. 

Sunny prides herself on being a one-woman team. “I make all the products that are available at Sunny Label, from painting the candle jars and pouring the soy candles, concocting our fruit-flavored kombucha, mixing our home sprays and reed diffusers, designing our marketing efforts, taking photographs, shipping orders, and everything in between.” 

Aside from managing everything on her own, Sunny says her brand is an extension of her values.

“I try to be very intentional with my choices every step of the way—from where we get our pots up to the paint we use. No questionable ingredients, harmful materials, and unnecessary plastic packaging. We’re keeping it simple and natural from our scented soy candles with phthalate-free oils, naturally-grown tea blends, pure fruit nectars, non-GMO microgreens seeds, all-natural kombucha, and more.” 

Sunny Label makes sure to work with local and carefully sourced materials that are sure to be the best for their customers, the local livelihood, and the environment.
