The Philippine media giant ABS-CBN announced on Wednesday that it has filed a lawsuit against 40 websites in the United States on the grounds of piracy as well as copyright and trademark infringement.
The case entitled “ABS-CBN v. 123Fullpinoymovieshub.com”, which has amounted to $40 million, was filed before the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida against 40 websites for allegedly “pirating ABS-CBN’s content and infringing its copyrights and trademarks.”
A preliminary injunction against the websites to take down their domains with a serving notice had recently been issued, said ABS-CBN represented by Stephen Gaffigan and Christine Daley of Stephen M. Gaffigan, PA.
ABS-CBN noted the “comeback” of piracy during the global pandemic as people continue to stay at home, allowing criminals “more time and inclination to devote to nefarious activities.”
A warning to the public to avoid visiting pirate domains, which usually contain malware, has also been echoed by Elisha Lawrence, ABS-CBN’s assistant vice president for global anti-piracy.
“Watch our content on safe legitimate services such as ABS-CBN’s OTT platform iWantTFC and the TFC channel on all major cable and satellite providers,” added Lawrence.
ABS-CBN’s objective to provide quality entertainment while protecting its consumers “from the dangers that pirated content brings” remains strong, affirmed Jun Del Rosario, managing director for North and Latin America.
