AirAsia Partners with DOT to Promote Philippines as a Muslim-Friendly Destination

AirAsia Philippines has teamed up with the Department of Tourism (DOT) to position the Philippines as a welcoming destination for Muslim travelers.

In a statement, AirAsia announced it was recognized by the DOT as the “first Muslim-friendly airline” for offering Halal-certified meal options on all Z2 domestic and international flights.

Halal-Certified Offerings and New Menu

Starting January 16, AirAsia will introduce new dishes to its in-flight Santan menu, including Halal-certified Beef Rendang and Chicken Pastil, priced at ₱220 per serving.

“AirAsia Philippines is committed to making our services inclusive, especially for Muslim travelers. Airlines play a critical role in Halal tourism, and we aim to provide a warm and welcoming experience for all,” said AirAsia Philippines CEO Ricky Isla.

Focus on Domestic Tourism

AirAsia is also increasing flight frequencies to domestic destinations such as Cebu, Caticlan, and Cagayan De Oro. DOT Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco emphasized the importance of addressing touchpoints for Muslim tourists and enhancing inclusivity in the country’s tourism offerings.

“This partnership reflects our shared aspiration for an inclusive and globally competitive Philippine tourism industry,” Garcia-Frasco said.

Growing Demand for Halal Tourism

With approximately 15 million Muslims residing in the Philippines, catering to this demographic is key. In 2024, AirAsia’s Santan brand served 535,000 meals, up from 480,000 in 2023, showcasing growing demand for inclusive offerings.
