Alibaba announced it aims to compete in the cloud computing business in the Philippines by training 50,000 IT workers within the next 3 years.
Alibaba also announced that it aims to certify 10,000 of the IT workers and aims to help 5,000 businesses migrate digitally by the end of 2023.
The company said the demand for cloud computing services has boomed since the coronavirus outbreak, leading businesses to accelerate their digital initiatives.
Lancelot Guo, vice president of Alibaba Group, said “A lot of digital departments are being accelerated,”
Guo said that there was a large increase in demand for cloud computing for business, especially by small and medium enterprises as these smaller businesses are more vulnerable to the economic change brought by the pandemic than large conglomerates.
“We can see that Philippine SMEs are very eager to embrace cloud technology and we would like to bring our know-hows proven solutions supporting the various business units of Alibaba Group, including Fintech, retail, media and entertainment and logistics to the local customers,” said Alibaba Cloud.
The company continued “Through our partnership with PLDT, Alibaba Cloud provided hybrid cloud and security solutions to the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games for its eSports competition, ensuring high-speed connectivity and efficient handling of high data volume online,”
