Archie Comics Dives into NFTs, Develops Blockchain-based Writer’s Room

Archie Comics, the prominent American comic book publisher known for its Riverdale characters, is eyeing the development of a blockchain-based writer’s room which will allow fans to generate art and stories as well as Archie-inspired NFT collections. The publisher recently entered into a partnership with Palm NFT Studio for the creation of its “Archiverse: Eclipse.” Palm NFT Studio is the same collective that worked with DC Comics and Warner Bros. for its “Bat Cowl Collection” after the release of The Batman film.

The project hopes to foster “a near infinite storyline, created with fans” as it promotes generative storytelling. Creators whose submissions are selected will likewise be granted story credits and royalties for their contributions. There are also already 66,666 pre-generated NFT characters, which fans can purchase at $66.66 each beginning May 16.

“We knew we had to find the right partner and platform to introduce Archie 3.0. We cannot wait to introduce the gang to a whole new audience in a whole new way,” explained Archie Comics CEO Jon Goldwater, following the success of the “Riverdale” Netflix series as well as the rise of emerging technologies.

“Archie Comics is leveraging the blockchain to empower fans to author future series; incorporating fan-generated art and stories into the Archieverse, and directly rewarding contributors for their creativity. Archieverse: Eclipse collectors will be able to create and submit new storylines for their characters; with the opportunity to see their work become canon. The creators of selected submissions will be granted story credits and more from future comic series integration,” furthered the press release of Archie Comics and Palm NFT Studio.

Aside from having access to the writer’s room, fans who will purchase from the coming NFT drop will also be able to participate in a series of role-playing sessions and puzzle-solving challenges as they are encouraged to crack an “ominous prophecy” inspired by The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina — another title from Archie Comics.
