The Fjord FSTR, a new 109-meter high-speed catamaran, was launched from the Austal Philippines shipyard last February.
Fjord Line’s new high-speed catamaran will reduce the CO2 emissions by 32 percent per passenger kilometer, compared to its previous ship, the Fjord Cat. It is the largest aluminum vessel ever constructed in the country and doubles the capacity of the fastest route between Norway and Denmark. The ferry’s mezzanine is estimated to be able to hold up to 1,200 passengers and 404 vehicles.
Aboitiz Construction (ACI) assisted the delivery of this project by managing the fabrication and installation of 20 tons of pillars to the ship.
Aboitiz Construction has been working with Austal Philippines on their construction requirements since 2011, mostly on the expansion and upgrade of factory facilities, which include civil, architectural, electrical, and mechanical works, and are currently working on the construction of additional mooring bitts, fabrication of pillars, and floating docks to some of Austal’s other ferries.
“We have other ongoing projects with them on shipbuilding, and we hope to demonstrate our expertise and further elevate our mission to build a better future,” said the Director, President, and Chairman of ACI Anton Mari Perdices.
