The road linking Bonifacio Global City (BGC) and Ortigas Center will be opened to the public on June 12, said Public Works Secretary Mark Villar on Wednesday. This road project is part of the government’s plan to ease traffic along EDSA.
“We’re targeting to open the main span by Independence Day. That’s June 12. Once that’s finished it will significantly decongest EDSA. We’re looking at anywhere between 20% [and] 25% reduction,” said Villar.
The BGC-Ortigas Center Link was also aimed at decongesting C5 Road by around 10%, he added. Usual travel time from Ortigas to Makati and Taguig approximately takes an hour, which is expected to be reduced to just over 10 minutes.
Villar earlier announced that the four-lane project was set to be completed within 2020, but the outbreak of the global pandemic forced a rescheduling. In 2021, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) also planned to partially open the road by May, but the remaining civil works led it to be postponed.
The upgraded Estrella-Pantaleon bridge that connects Estrella in Makati City and Barangka Drive in Mandaluyong City is also set to be reopened after being closed for construction in 2019.
