BOC Seizes Record P72.091 Billion Worth of Smuggled Goods in 2024

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has set a new record for smuggled goods seizures, confiscating P72.091 billion worth of goods so far in 2024. This figure surpasses the P43.29 billion recorded for the entire year of 2023.

In October alone, the BOC seized P3.09 billion worth of smuggled goods, including P2.3 billion in various commodities, P22.3 million worth of cigarettes, and a vessel valued at P420 million for carrying smuggled petroleum products. Additionally, the BOC intercepted P42.16 million worth of illegal drugs at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and P323 million worth of smuggled rice.

Finance Secretary Ralph Recto emphasized the importance of strong intelligence in curbing smuggling, highlighting the negative impact on farmers and local businesses.

The BOC is tasked with generating nearly P1 trillion in revenue this year, following its P883.624 billion collection in 2023.
