The Bank of the Philippine Islands Asset Management and Trust Corp. (BPI AMTC) — a wholly-owned subsidiary of BPI — recently announced the launch of the country’s first sustainable fund suite as well as three new investment vehicles that fall under it. These unit investment trust funds (UITFs) were introduced to focus on key areas in the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) such as climate change, renewable energy, resource efficiency, and inequality while offering long-term financial returns.
Available across different asset classes, these three UITFs — namely, BPI Invest Sustainable Global Bond Fund-of-Funds, BPI Invest Sustainable Global Balanced Fund-of-Funds, and BPI Invest Sustainable Global Equity Fund-of-Funds — allow investors to contribute to a more sustainable world while fitting into their specific needs and risk profiles. The BPI Invest Sustainable Fund Suite caters to various investors through its multi-theme and multi-asset approach.
“BPI AMTC recognizes that investors have now matured in their preferences, searching for investments that are not only profitable but also meaningful, not only rewarding but also impactful,” explained the subsidiary’s president and CEO Sheila Marie Tan. “Through our new funds, everyone can proactively shape the growth of responsible industries and businesses.”
Tan furthered that investors will be able to invest in companies that are either developing sustainability projects or those that have business practices, products, services, and investment decisions that take into consideration environmental, social, and governance (ESG) metrics with a minimum investment of $1000.
Through a funds-of-funds structure, investments made under the BPI Invest Sustainable Fund Suite will go into a portfolio of carefully selected global target funds that are devoted to companies with the highest ESG standards or have direct links to sustainability projects. BPI ATMC also noted that it has engaged with some of the most prominent global asset management and sustainable investment firms.
Among these are Janus Henderson Investors, Schroder Investment Management, Wellington Management, JP Morgan Asset Management, and PIMCO. In line with the launch of the sustainable fund, BPI ATMC has also committed to releasing more than 27,000 pawikan (sea turtle) hatchlings in Bagac, Bataan after it adopted 270 pawikan nests from the Pag-Asa Pawikan Conservation Center.
