BSP to Temporarily Halt Coin Deposit Machine Services in Malls Starting June 17

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) announced on Friday that it will temporarily suspend the operation of its Coin Deposit Machines (CoDMs) in select Metro Manila malls beginning June 17, 2025.

The BSP said the move is part of a comprehensive review to improve how idle coins are circulated and how the public’s coin exchange needs are met. Once the review is completed, the machines will be relaunched to further enhance the central bank’s coin recirculation efforts.

Until June 16, the public can continue using the CoDMs to deposit their coins.

Since their launch in 2023, the machines have processed nearly ₱1.5 billion worth of coins.

For those unable to use the CoDMs, the BSP advises depositing fit coins at banks. Individuals without bank accounts can still exchange fit, unfit, or damaged coins through banks or financial institutions participating in the BSP’s Piso Caravan program.

Banks are also obligated to accept and exchange unfit coins as part of their role in removing worn-out currency from circulation.
