BSP warns against fake ₱20 coin

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas stated that it did not issue the “Brilliant Uncirculated ₱20 coins” that are currently being sold online.

What it has released since December 2019 are ₱20 New Generation Currency (NGC) coins which are legal tender and can be used for financial transactions.

“The BSP reminds the public to beware of online sellers advertising Brilliant Uncirculated 20-Piso coins for sale,” said the BSP—a similar advisory was also released in October 2020.

Previously, the BSP stated that the ₱20 is the most used denomination for payments in the country and that the ₱20 coin will eventually replace the banknote.

In short, the ₱20 coins you have are probably real, just don’t buy any online.
